Heather has been practicing law since 2002 and became a partner with Horne Coupar LLP in January 2007. She practices primarily in the areas of estate and trust planning, administration and litigation.
Over the course of her career, Heather has had extensive experience in dealing with all aspects of estate and trust litigation, including wills variation claims, challenges to validity of wills, breach of fiduciary duty, resulting trust actions, unjust enrichment, passing of accounts, proprietary estoppel claims and dealing with problem executors or beneficiaries.
Heather is originally from Saint John, New Brunswick. She moved to Victoria in 1990 to join the Victoria Symphony as second bassoon. Whilst at the University of Victoria she received the Scotia Trust – Donovan & Maryla Waters Award in Trusts and Estate Planning. Heather is also the recipient of the Gold Standard of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
Heather volunteers her time and expertise in the education of fellow lawyers. She was a contributor from 2009 to 2019 to the Annual Review of Law & Practice, a publication of the Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia, as the author of the chapter Wills, Trusts, Estates and Adult Guardianship. She is a current contributor to another CLE publication, Estate Disputes in British Columbia: A Litigator’s Guide. Heather also contributes to the community at large, previously serving on the board of Pacific Opera Victoria as well as the Broadmead Care Society.
When time allows, one may still find Heather on the concert stage performing with many Victoria music ensembles. In addition, she enjoys golfing, growing orchids, and a new found passion for tango.
